Cardinals

Another experiment in trying to capture a scene described by Debbie during one of the (many) recent snow events.  A pair of cardinals sat upon a snow dusted pine tree limb out in our back yard.  Unfortunately there was a camera malfunction and the shot was missed.

Oil pastels on heavy paper, and acrylic paint will be used for highlights and parts in the foreground as well as foreground and background snow.  Every bit of advice you will find on the Net will tell you to paint an undercoat with the acrylic and highlight with the pastels.  I'm calling B.S. on that, as I have noticed that the oil pastels seal the paper and the acrylic dries nicely right there on top where it's not supposed to.

Haa!  The status quo can kiss my easel.  Final version pending soon.

This one was started years ago, and sat unattended on a shelf at work except for the occasional spurt of drawing all those dang bricks.  One or two here and there and a short five years or so goes by and what do you know it's starting to look like a brick wall already!  Gee whiz.

The concept is "The Lucky Tramp".  This pose of Chaplin is found easily on the Internet.  It always seemed to me as if he had seen something of interest on the ground.  Standing outside a storefront, there will be a coin on the sidewalk.

I'm still working on some minor conceptual details.  Such as, what I'm going to put inside the store, and how the heck I am going to draw the darkened contents of the store while preserving all that lettering on the store window and door.  Joy!  Plus, I have to deal with the fact that I've drawn him entirely too large and he is apparently about 7 feet tall.  Oh well, so much for accuracy!  Haa!
